Exciting News from Magento Imagine 2018

Magento Imagine 2018

The annual passionately awaited community event Magento Imagine took place on April 23d - 25th. It’s the biggest Magento event that begins with #RoadToImagine and ends with (for the first time, though) #RoadFromImagine. The Conference includes sports activities, parties, hackathons, speeches, sponsors marketplace, exams, awards and so on. But first of all the Conference designed for communication and inspiration, and from our point of view, it definitely manages to fulfill these tasks: just go on Twitter and count how many people leave the conference almost crying.

In the article, we share the most exciting news from the Magento Imagine Conference 2018.

Lead the Charge

“Lead the charge” is the motto of the 8th Magento Imagine Conference, so Mark Lavelle at his opening speech focused on the leadership and gave the following tips:

  • Own the results.
  • Anticipate changes.
  • Take an active part in the work of the community.
  • Bring innovations.

Another keynote speaker Jamie Foxx, an actor and musical artist, also advises to dominate in any field and not to be afraid of anything as “there is nothing on the other side of the fear”.

It’s impossible not to mention Melissa Ben-Ishay. Probably, she was the most inspiring speaker at the conference. She shared her story of making a business from her passion after being fired. Now, she leads a nice business “Baked by Melissa” because back then she decided not to live a life of coulda, woulda, shoulda. Her business is 10 years old, but she decided to start leveraging Magento functionality not long ago. However, Melissa’s happy with this decision as it allows her to focus on her strengths like business development.

Moreover, for a bigger and better Magento community, it was decided to create a new Magento Association, which is going to be dedicated to contribution and support, technology and education projects, community events and online collaborations. The launch of the new Magento Association must happen at the end of the year.

Main Topics of Magento Imagine 2018

The first session set up the mood. Mobile & Millennials was the theme of the breakfast sponsored by PayPal. Both terms are related as millennials and mobile conversions are the most discussed topics in ecommerce: a cell phone is still the device of choice and millennials become the major part of consumers.

It’s not a surprise that then the topic for discussion was the Magento PWA Studio. In case you haven’t heard about this notion, you can get familiar with PWA in the article Progressive Web App (PWA) a New Trend in Ecommerce. The Magento PWA Studio is still being developed and we should wait up to 4 Magento versions releases until the new studio is released. However, the community can help with this process by sharing their experience on working with PWA.

A lot of sessions were devoted to B2B: how to get users engaged with the platform, what are the levels of B2B digital maturity, what should you consider before starting to lead the way with B2B, and how other coped with challenges of creating an online B2B business.

Magento Business Intelligence (BI) was also popular at the Imagine Conference. The release of BI was announced at Magento Imagine last year and it’s gaining the popularity. At the sessions, you could find out the key concepts for using Magento BI as well as the results it brought to the users.

As usual, at Magento Imagine, developers could take the exams for Magento Certification at a special price. This year, one could even take the Magento 2 Certified Developer exam.

The Release of Magento 2.2.4

On the last day of the Imagine Conference, Magento announced that the new version will be available on May 2nd. It is worth to mention that about 200 community contributions were made to the latest Magento version.

The previous release, Magento 2.2.3, was all about security, Magento 2.2.4, in its turn, focuses on payment, taxes and shipping.

Tax and Payments in Magento 2.2.4

Amazon Pay will be available in the new Magento 2.2.4. It will allow customers to complete the checkout process faster than ever by using the information stored in Amazon accounts. Furthermore, Amazon Pay is a trusted familiar brand so its presence on your site will decrease the cart abandonment rate.

Klarna is a Swedish company that has brought such innovations to online payment methods as “Slice It” and “Pay Later”. Magento 2.2.4 supports Klarna payments as a part of the core platform, it will allow your customers to pay in installments or on credit.

Vertex is a supreme provider of tax automation technology solution which is supported in Magento 2.2.4. It means that based on the order and shipping address, you’ll be able to calculate the exact taxes a customer has to pay.
